Summer’s officially over, the pumpkin spice is flowing, and Q4 is breathing down our necks. Welcome to the September edition of The Legal Marketing Pulse—your fast-track guide from Consultwebs to finishing 2026 strong.

While competing firms are still shaking off their summer vacation haze, high-growth practices are using September to quietly steal market share. Grab your morning coffee and let’s turn these autumn leads into end-of-year revenue. Let’s dive in to the updates👇

🔎SEO

Google’s August 2026 spam update is complete. It took 2.5 days to complete. Google did say this is a “normal spam” update and that there is nothing specifically new with this update, outside of Google running it again.

🤖AI

OpenAI is building a new ad format. It would lead users to a business-specific ChatGPT conversation equipped to answer questions, surface products, and capture leads. OpenAI has already started this process with select advertisers. This feature will allow potential customers to immediately join a conversation and more closely mimic the workflow of consulting a chatbot natively.

🌐Digital Advertising

GeoSurge ran a test on AI chatbots to compare how often brands that the chatbots are familiar with are cited compared to others. They found that chatbots cite the brands they are familiar with 3.2 times more than other brands, highlighting the importance of branded marketing efforts.

Each year, advertisers everywhere breathe a sigh of frustration during election season. Political advertisements tend to drive up the cost of ads, meaning if you don’t change your budget, your results may dip. Temporarily increasing your budget will help sustain momentum in your campaigns. It’s projected that the spending for this year’s election will reach an all-time high of $10.8 billion. Prepare for the upcoming influx by speaking with your team to talk about options. “Election windows drive 5–15% CPM increases nationwide, with 40–50% increases in battleground markets. Meta is most affected, while TikTok tends to experience less political pressure. Flexibility in budgets and targeting is essential.”

📱Social Media

LinkedIn is now offering the option to report AI slop. They are using this as a way to combat AI comments and restrict feedback in posts to real humans. This will also help LinkedIn improve their models to create better feeds for users with more human interaction.

New research reveals that 75% of LinkedIn AI citations come from individual profiles instead of company pages. AI systems are favoring individual voices because individual profiles share specific content with expertise, practical advice, and more. In particular, LinkedIn articles coming from individual pages are driving a large portion of those citations.

Stay LAWsome–We’ll See You Again Next Month!

That’s a wrap for the September updates! Remember, the moves you make right now are what give way to a momentous Q4. You don’t have to tackle it alone. Stay tuned each month for our updates packed with unmissable strategies, news, and takeaways to keep your law firm prepared. Catch you in October!

When Google opened its Local Services Ads (LSAs) platform to law firms in 2021, it led to a major shift in online legal marketing. Now, the LSA platform itself is about to undergo a big change. If your law firm is among the many that have relied on LSAs to gain new cases, you need to be ready for the change now.

Starting in August 2026, Google began merging LSA accounts into its main Google Ads platform, creating something akin to a Performance Max campaign. The “migration,” as Google calls it, will continue in stages through 2027. But it won’t happen without warning. Your firm will get a two-week notice before Google migrates your account from the previously separate LSA platform.

Firms Can Prepare Now for the Migration of LSAs to Google Ads

Our advice: don’t wait to get that notice from Google. Your firm can prepare now for the LSA migration by understanding what will stay the same and what will change, and by taking steps to transition to Google Ads without missing opportunities to sign new clients. For instance, you will need to preserve your valuable historic data before migration.

While we will cover those topics here, you should also reach out to Consultwebs to speak with one of our experienced LSA consultants. We can review how the migration to Google Ads could impact your law firm’s overall digital marketing strategy and how we can help you continue to get the most out of your LSA advertising budget after the migration happens.

What Will Stay the Same with Your Law Firm’s Google Local Services Ads?

Your law firm’s Local Services Ads are not going away. As Google explains, they’re just moving to a new home. You will manage your LSAs in a different place, with a few new rules and settings you will need to become familiar with.

Otherwise, LSAs will continue to offer the same key features that have made them such a popular, cost-efficient, and effective way for law firms to gain valid case leads over the last five years, including:

  • Visibility – Your law firm’s LSAs can still appear near the top of Google Search and Google Maps when a local person searches for legal help online, appearing above PPC ads and other Google search results. One of the main benefits of LSAs is that your firm can appear in these high-value spots and reach people when they are looking to hire a local attorney, not merely browsing.
  • No keyword targeting – You still won’t have to use target keywords, or search terms, for your LSAs to show in relevant local searches. Google will continue to rely on information like your office location, practice areas, and business profile.
  • Pay-per-lead model – LSAs will still follow this billing model, allowing law firms to spend their advertising dollars on people who are trying to contact them, or valid leads, rather than losing money when ad clicks don’t lead to cases.

That’s the good news. The not-quite-so-good news: the transition to Google Ads will still bring many changes to how your firm manages and pays for LSAs. If you aren’t ready, your firm could lose marketing data and miss out on valid case leads.

What Will Change When Your Firm’s LSA Account Migrates to Google Ads?

With the migration of your law firm’s LSAs to Google Ads on the horizon, these are the critical changes your law firm should be getting ready for now:

  • Dashboard and data – With Google Ads, you will use a new platform for managing your LSAs, similar to how you manage current Local Services Ads. However, you will no longer be able to access Local Services Ads dashboard or previous campaign performance reports. So, if you don’t preserve them, you will lose key data about your LSA campaigns. Also, instead of managing leads through your LSA inbox, you will manage them through your Google Ads interface.
  • Billing and budget management – After the move, you can no longer use manual bidding (or “custom bidding”) for maximum cost per lead. Instead, you will use one campaign-level target cost per lead across all service categories. You will also manage an average daily budget to achieve your pay-per-lead goals through your Google Ads account, and not a weekly budget.
  • Syncing of your profile – Your current LSA profile, including your firm’s name, address, office business hours, and other business details will sync from your Google Business profile, making it crucial to ensure your information is current and correct.

Additionally, with the shift to Google Ads, LSAs can no longer feature Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings as a “callout.” You will need to offer other information to build trust with prospective clients in your local market.

By preparing for these changes today rather than waiting for the migration date, your law firm should be able to avoid any performance drops in your LSA advertising and keep your lead pipeline flowing steadily.

What Can Lawyers Do Now to Get Ready for the Google LSA Migration?

According to Google, your law firm will receive both 14-day and seven-day notices before your LSA account migrates to Google Ads. Waiting until you get that notice to prepare for the move is not the best plan. Instead, take steps now, including:

  • Download your data – Because your LSA historical performance reports won’t transfer to Google Ads, you should export those previous performance reports as soon as possible. This performance data will allow your firm to continue year-over-year comparisons, track the trends in your case leads, and assess your return on investment (ROI) in your average LSA ad spend.
  • Check your Google Business profile – Your LSA profile will sync with your Google Business profile. So, you need to make sure the information is accurate, including your business name, the number of lawyers at your firm, different office locations, and service areas.
  • Tighten your intake and lead response – Now is a good time to review your intake process, including designating who monitors your leads and assesses lead quality, how you route calls and messages your firm gets through LSAs, and how quickly you respond to them. The faster your follow-ups, the more value you will get from your lead costs.
  • Find alternative callouts – If you can no longer use your BBB rating as a trust signal, look to alternatives, such as your lawyers’ years of experience, free consultations, and 24/7 availability.

At the start of every year, the team at Consultwebs gathers our top industry specialists, locks them in a room (metaphorically), and asks for their wildest, most data-backed predictions for the future of legal marketing. This year, those insights turned into a massive 20+ page playbook covering everything from AI search disruption to the next evolution of web design and social media.

Now that we’re halfway through the year, it’s time to revisit those predictions and see exactly what we got right.

Let’s dive in!

SEO & AI Search Predictions

SEO is no stranger to rapid changes, especially with AI-driven shifts in the past couple of years. These are the trends we correctly forecasted.

What We Predicted:

“We have to answer people’s searches (now a.k.a, prompts) directly, without having too much fluff. Now it’s not about word count (it hasn’t been for a long time), it’s about answering the search intent with the most relevant information and in the most unique way, so that you can differentiate from others.”

What We’re Seeing:

This continued to grow and become important, giving a unique perspective and data, which is how you get more visibility.

What We Predicted:

“Pages with clear, comprehensive, and first-hand experience-based content will perform better. This is especially true for “Your Money or Your Life” (YMYL) topics like legal advice, where Google holds sites to the highest standard. Law firms need to prove their real-world expertise and authority. Building a standing E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trust) is inevitable for law firms.”

What We’re Seeing:

The December 2025 and March 2026 core updates hammered this home; sites that we saw doing this well grew during those updates while sites that lagged or lacked them saw declines.

What We Predicted:

“But this time, not only for Google, but also for ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and so on. Google’s SERP is becoming more visual and interactive, with carousels, grids, and filters taking a larger portion of the screen (As of January 2025, some AIOs have increased to 800px and are predicted to potentially reach 1,000px), particularly on mobile devices. This “visual-first” approach means that content isn’t just about text anymore; it’s about rich media and structured data. It’s especially important for the law firms that are smaller, and those that compete in a large competition.”

What We’re Seeing:

While our prediction about Schema Markup being specifically utilized by AI tools didn’t quite hit the mark, it does still play an important role.

One of the biggest influences on what shows in an AI result is whether the LLM does an external search or just uses its training data. If it uses Google or Bing and searches to look at answers and then factors the results of that search into its own answer, then your ranking and visibility in traditional SEO has a major impact. The features you show up for in those searches are impacted by Schema Markup and other traditional SEO tactics.

What We Predicted:

“Focusing only on Google Search is not enough anymore. It’s not only about the SEO you know of, as per Rand Fishkin. People are searching everywhere. Not being on that platform, you are missing the opportunity of getting cited there and missing the opportunity to beat your competitors. A lot of large platforms have their own AI search results, and if they don’t, they are working hard on getting there. Be prepared. We will continue to see more AI-powered features roll out from Google. Change will be constant, and testing will be a key focus for 2026.”

What We’re Seeing:

This prediction has been spot on and continues to remain relevant. We watched as Reddit was the top cited source in Google AI Overviews, which has changed a bit, and now YouTube has overtaken that, with LinkedIn climbing the ranks as well. We have also seen legal directory sites make a huge comeback as AI models are using them as trusted sources on a regular basis. AI is not looking in one place; it’s looking all over.

What We Predicted:

“AI cannot be tracked like traditional keywords can. The extent of reliable tracking comes from analytics and monitoring the traffic and conversion rates coming from AI platforms. You cannot reliably track visibility, rankings, or anything else tied to AI results in the various platforms or in Google’s AI Overviews. These are already personalized, and this will continue as they provide memory, so the tools remember your likes and dislikes and can further tailor the response. This leads to everything being new and unique.”

What We’re Seeing:

This has continued to be a pain point for marketing professionals; we still do not have reliable tracking, and there are various ways of getting results. It can be broken down into two buckets. LLM-only searches, where it looks only at the data in the model. Then LLM + Search, where it does a live search to look for related results and pull them in to inform its decision.

The search piece is where SEO comes in. If you have good visibility, then you will show up more often. As for tracking, it’s still not great. Recent studies show that you can run a search 100 times, and every time the answer will vary. Also, personalization has become stronger, with more memory, it can remember searches you did previously and other conversations you had, and use that information to help personalize your results.

Web Design Predictions

What We Predicted:

“AI has taken some of the grunt work out of our daily digital workloads and routines. This will apply to web design in the form of AI chatbots that can provide customer service 24/7, 365 days a year. Website search will also be improved with on-site AI tools, providing more accurate and speedy results when searching very large, technical, and content-heavy websites.”

What We’re Seeing:

New AI-fueled chat products launch every day. AI assistance has been increasingly prominent in 2026.

Video Marketing Predictions

Call us Nostradamus, because ALL of our video marketing predictions came true this year. We will be highlighting our favorites, but be sure to check the rest of them out in the full book here.

What We Predicted:

“Large-language-models (LLMs) like Gemini and ChatGPT will lean more on answers that feature video content when applicable, showcasing high-quality content that answers questions in a concise manner. SEO for videos on websites and social media platforms will need to be even more critical for LLMs to recommend them.”

What We’re Seeing:

This couldn’t be truer today. YouTube continues to vie for the number one platform being cited for LLMs like ChatGPT and AI Overviews. Videos are increasingly embedded in AI Overviews as sources of information.

What We Predicted:

“Short-form video content will continue to dominate. We expect to see more short-form content tailored to specific platforms like slightly longer videos for TikTok and shorter ones for Reels. Instead of only repurposing long-form video, more brands will prioritize separate original short-form content for episodic series, interactive shorts, and more. ”

What We’re Seeing:

Short-form videos remain popular for social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, with platforms like LinkedIn also continuing to prioritize them. Many social media platforms are also indexed by Google, which helps demonstrate a law firm’s EEAT. Social media plays an integral role in establishing social proof and authority.

What We Predicted:

“AI video floods the market and will continue to do so. Audiences will be seeking proof of human involvement. AI-usage transparency in video content will be under a microscope, with the sentiment leaning toward audiences craving more unpolished human-created videos. Platforms will enforce AI-generated labels.”

What We’re Seeing:

Due to an influx of AI-generated content, major social media platforms, along with websites like Wikipedia, have cracked down on AI content. These new policies continue to evolve with new guidelines and labels rolling out frequently.

What We Predicted:

“Strong hooks and text overlays will be critical. Silent video consumption is widespread (scrolling without sound), and many people who do this will flip right past a video without obvious and attractive captioning.”

What We’re Seeing:

Videos with native or high-quality stylized captions consistently outperform identical videos without them in average watch time. Furthermore, platforms process and index the actual words in your captions, making them a crucial driver for Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Strong hooks and text overlays will be critical. Silent video consumption is widespread (scrolling without sound), and many people who do this will flip right past a video without obvious and attractive captioning.

PPC Predictions

Our PPC team correctly predicted many items as well. Google is notoriously cryptic, so it is quite the feat to predict this many items correctly.

What We Predicted:

“AI is Mandatory – AI drives automation, optimization, and predictive campaign performance.”

What We’re Seeing:

Throughout 2026, Google continued expanding AI-powered advertising features, making AI a core part of campaign management. Law firms increasingly relied on AI-driven bidding, audience targeting, and campaign optimization to remain competitive.

What We Predicted:

“Human + AI Balance – Scale with AI while keeping strategy, compliance, and oversight intact.”

What We’re Seeing:

This prediction proved especially accurate for law firms. While AI-generated optimizations helped increase lead volume, many legal advertisers reported lower lead quality and irrelevant case inquiries. Human oversight remained essential to maintain compliance, control search intent, and improve lead qualification.

What We Predicted:

“Tracking Offline Conversions”

What We’re Seeing:

Offline conversion tracking became increasingly important for law firms because signed cases, qualified consultations, and retained clients are stronger indicators of success than online leads alone. Google’s automation systems continue to prioritize high-quality conversion data.

What We Predicted:

“Strengthen First-Party Data Strategy”

What We’re Seeing:

As privacy regulations increased and third-party tracking became less reliable, law firms were encouraged to invest in first-party data strategies, Customer Match, and Enhanced Conversions to improve campaign performance and measurement.

What We Predicted:

“Stay Flexible with Campaign Structures.”

What We’re Seeing:

As Google continued expanding Demand Gen, AI Max, and AI-powered placements, law firms increasingly tested new campaign formats while maintaining Search as the primary lead-generation channel. Successful firms adapted to new formats without abandoning proven search strategies.

Social media changes weekly, daily, sometimes even by the hour. Almost every single prediction in our original book was predicted correctly for Social Media. We’ve highlighted the most noteworthy ones below.

What We Predicted:

“TikTok becomes the new Google (especially for Gen-Z) not only in search, but in Maps. More and more people are turning to TikTok, especially for local searches like businesses (especially law firms!)”

What We’re Seeing:

When users search on TikTok they can filter by nearby businesses and videos. The app also introduced local feeds earlier in the year.

What We Predicted:

“Nostalgia makes a big comeback.”

What We’re Seeing:

Nostalgia is making a huge comeback! It’s primarily driven by Millennials and Gen-Z. More users are using old filters, trends in audio and dance, fashion, unpolished styles, etc.

What We Predicted:

“Governments will regulate platforms even more. We’ve seen it hitting in 2025, and it’s only going to grow. Expect stricter privacy data laws, platform accountability, and stricter local laws.”

What We’re Seeing:

We’ve been sounding bells on this one for years, but with social media lawsuits and AI developing even quicker, this is bound to continue. Examples of public calls for action here and here.

What We Predicted:

“AI-generated tools will become very popular, even more than they currently are (which is super popular). This will force AI users to note when their content is AI-generated.”

What We’re Seeing:

While some gaps still remain, social media platforms have made a significant effort in labeling AI disclosures.

As you cross the mid-year mark focused on winning cases, we’ve been tracking the major digital shifts that will define your law firm’s marketing success this season.

Here are the highlights for this month 👇

Let’s Get to the Updates!

🔍 Search

In this guide, Google maps out how to optimize for generative AI. It answers questions like: Is SEO still relevant for gen AI search? (The answer is YES!) and addresses common misconceptions.

Google’s new agentic features — including AI Mode calling local businesses on a user’s behalf — confirm that Search is shifting from a list of links toward an execution layer that completes tasks for users. The website’s job is changing from “destination” to “data source.” For law firms, that means accurate, machine-readable information about practice areas, intake availability, jurisdictions, and consultation policies — delivered through clean semantic HTML and Schema.org markup — is now table stakes. If an AI agent can’t parse it, it can’t surface you when a user asks it to find them a lawyer.

The Google core update added inline links to Google search. This means that instead of source links like a lawyer’s LinkedIn or website showing up at the bottom of an overview, they will appear right next to the text, giving the viewer easier access to their content and increasing visibility.

🤖AI

John Mueller and Martin Splitt have been experimenting with AI-built websites. They have found that while the sites are functional and have been produced quickly, the SEO portion is lacking in the test sites. They tried to tell AI to add more SEO, but found that the AI simply does not understand it. After experimenting, their conclusion is that AI does not replace an experienced SEO specialist.

YouTube is launching a new AI-powered feature that will allow users to conversationally dictate what will be on their feed. They say it will allow more personalized content, giving creators more visibility with their preferred viewers.

🌐Digital Advertising

ChatGPT ads are moving slightly past the pilot phase, with the next phase being a self-serve ad platform. The rollout remains limited and still in beta, but it is expected to gradually expand.

Google is automatically linking Google Ads accounts with their corresponding YouTube account. This year, YouTube is one of the most citable sources for AI, making YouTube and video content even more important. This means that since the accounts are linked, visibility and other data can be tracked through Google Ads, creating more targeting options.

Google is officially retiring standalone Display campaigns and moving all Display inventory into Demand Gen campaigns. It introduces new capabilities that were not available in traditional Display campaigns, including advanced creative formats, expanded audience targeting, and improved reporting tools. The migration will begin rolling out in June 2026 and continue through 2027. Law firms will need to shift from static, placement-driven Display strategies to audience-driven, creative-led campaigns, similar to paid social. This reinforces Google’s broader shift toward AI-driven, full-funnel campaign types, requiring more emphasis on creative quality, audience strategy, and first-party data.

📱Social Media

Meta is launching a new Facebook-related app called Forum. It will be a somewhat separate platform that will allow users to have a Reddit-like experience in the groups they are in on Facebook.

Instagram has updated its content metrics with a new tab for easier access and a better way to track data and view content performance. This change makes it easier for attorneys to see which metrics Instagram deems important and will help you easily keep track of post performance to best optimize content.

LinkedIn added a new feature to business profiles. Lawyers can add a “Get advice from me” button, giving potential clients the option to connect with businesses directly on their pages. This means that since LinkedIn is one of the top-cited sources in AI overviews, this new feature could potentially turn visibility and conversations into direct leads. When new features such as this roll out, it’s important to test and lean into them, as algorithms tend to reward users who participate in them with visibility.

Stay LAWsome–We’ll See You Again Next Month!

That’s all for the month of June. We’ll be back in July with more updates to help your law firm stay in the know for all things digital marketing.

While you focus on your clients this spring, let us handle the digital heavy lifting. The Consultwebs Monthly Update is here with the essential legal marketing news for April. We’ve cleared away the noise to bring you the month’s most critical shifts, helping you keep your firm’s strategy fresh and your focus where it belongs.

Let’s Get to the Updates!

🔍 Search

Google has improved the indexing of audio and visual content in search queries. Podcasts, video series, and audio-first content have historically been harder for Google to evaluate beyond metadata and transcripts. For brands and creators investing in non-text formats, Google’s ability to surface that work is catching up to where the audience already is. This means attorneys creating audio and video content will soon reap the benefits of those types of content showing up in places like ChatGPT, Gemini, and more.

Google Maps is launching a new feature called “Ask Maps”. This will give users the ability to ask complex questions to their Google Maps, and AI will find the place they are looking for and direct them easily. This feature uses reviews directly from Google for information on the business. This means that reviews could attract potential clients locally in a more direct way, so it is important that your law firm prioritizes review gathering.

🤖AI

OpenAI is changing its privacy policy. They are changing how their ads appear on certain paid ChatGPT plans and how they are targeted. Their ads will be personalized to the user’s search, but will still be labeled “sponsored” and separated from the generated answer. This will allow ads to be targeted differently, potentially more effectively.

ChatGPT’s models search for answers differently. While the default model leaned heavily on 3rd party content like blogs and articles, the premium model searched branded home pages and product pages. This means that leaning on EEAT optimized service pages, relevancy of content, and consistently posting and updating blogs and articles will increase a law firm’s chances of being cited in ChatGPT.

🌐Digital Advertising

A significant change has happened in how average daily budgets pace in campaigns using ad scheduling, which could change monthly spend totals. On March 1, Google Ads has proactively paced budgets to spend up to the full monthly limits, even if they only run on specific days.

For example, a campaign set to weekends only with a $100 daily budget previously spent about $800/month (roughly eight weekend days). Under the new pacing logic, it could spend up to $1,600/month — hitting $200 (2x daily budget) on each scheduled day.

A suggested action item for attorneys – if you consistently hit your daily budget, you may want to consider lowering your daily spend. This change will only take effect once your account receives a notification for it, as it is a slow, gradual rollout. This change further highlights the need for experienced professionals to manage Google Ads to prevent unintended overspends. Consultwebs will be monitoring this closely, and we encourage attorneys to speak with their advertising professionals about these changes.

📱Social Media

After a test phase on Amazon TV Products, Reels are now expanding to Google TVs across the US. Users experiencing Reels on larger screens means more watch time and opens up the app to new audiences who may not traditionally watch Reels on cell phone devices. This announcement fuels the need for video content creation.

The engagement rates from 2025 have decreased for Instagram, LinkedIn, and Threads. While that may sound alarming, Consultwebs clients’ average engagement rates have been much higher than industry standards quoted.

Instagram is rolling out a new feature that allows links to be included in post captions for meta-verified creators. Hypothetically, this would bring more traffic to a law firm’s website. However, Meta is known to restrict reach and views for directing users away from their platform. While this update may sound enticing, we advise attorneys to use this feature cautiously. Consultwebs will be monitoring and will inform clients of any developments on this topic.

Stay LAWsome–We’ll See You Again Next Month!

After more than 26 years of helping law firms grow online, one thing has never changed: digital marketing doesn’t stand still.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce our newest free ebook, 2026 Digital Marketing Predictions for Law Firms—a forward-looking guide designed to help attorneys understand what’s coming next and how to prepare ahead of changes.

As we look ahead to 2026, one reality stands above all others:

AI isn’t coming. It’s already here.

From Google’s AI Overviews to increased automation in advertising and a renewed demand for human-first experiences, the digital ecosystem is evolving faster than ever. For law firms, visibility, credibility, and trust in 2026 will depend on how well these tools are adopted, without losing the human connection that drives real client decisions.

Our new ebook breaks down what these changes mean in practical terms. Below is a preview of the key trends expected to shape legal marketing in 2026.

Adapting to the AI Search Revolution

One of the most significant shifts already underway is Google’s AI Overviews, which summarize answers directly in search results. These experiences are accelerating the rise of “zero-click” searches, where users get what they need without visiting a website at all.

For law firms, this represents a fundamental change. Rankings still matter—but in 2026, success will depend on whether AI engines view your firm as a trusted source worth citing.

What this means for personal injury firms:

  • Content must deliver clear, authoritative answers in formats AI can easily understand.
  • First-hand experience and true E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust) content will matter more than ever.
  • Expect volatility as AI platforms continue refining how relevance and credibility are defined.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Traditional SEO is expanding into Generative Engine Optimization, focused on visibility within platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. These tools synthesize information from across the web to generate custom answers, making credibility just as important as keywords.

In 2026, firms should expect:

  • Increased importance of structured data and schema to help AI understand content.
  • Reduced reliance on Google alone as search behavior spreads across AI tools, social platforms, and communities like Reddit.
  • New measurement standards that prioritize traffic, leads, and conversions over keyword rankings.

Branded campaigns and diversified visibility will be critical. Firms that rely on a single channel will be more vulnerable to disruption.

Web Design

After years of “AI everything,” audiences are gravitating back toward authenticity. The most effective law firm websites in 2026 will balance AI-powered efficiency with genuine, human storytelling.

Key shifts include:

  • Warmer, more approachable copy that feels personal, not robotic.
  • AI-powered chat tools that improve response times while preserving human follow-up.
  • Voice-enabled navigation, accessibility improvements, and immersive visual experiences.

Your website remains your digital front door. In 2026, it must feel alive, trustworthy, and unmistakably your law firm’s unique voice.

Video Marketing

AI can speed up video production, but it can’t replace credibility. Attorneys who appear on camera, sharing insights, stories, and real experiences, will continue to stand out.

Looking ahead:

  • Video SEO will expand as AI platforms increasingly surface video in responses.
  • Short-form video on TikTok, Reels, and Shorts will remain dominant.
  • Clearly labeled AI-generated content will make real, human-led videos even more compelling.

If your firm isn’t creating consistent short-form video yet, you’re already behind.

PPC

Pay-per-click advertising is becoming more automated, but legal nuance still requires expert oversight. AI-driven systems can improve efficiency, but without guidance, they often generate unqualified leads or wasted spend.

Winning PPC strategies will include:

  • Strong first-party data foundations.
  • Video-first campaigns across YouTube and Google Discover.
  • Ongoing human monitoring to ensure relevance, compliance, and lead quality.
  • Continuous testing to align automation with real firm goals.

AI is a tool—not a replacement for strategy.

Social Media

Social platforms will continue evolving rapidly in 2026. While AI-generated content becomes more common, audiences are also becoming more skeptical of it.

Expect:

  • Increased use of AI avatars, alongside growing fatigue when they’re overused.
  • A resurgence of memes, short looping videos, and relatable humor.
  • LinkedIn is shifting more toward lifestyle, culture, and behind-the-scenes content.
  • Greater regulation around data privacy and transparency.

Bottom line: don’t automate your humanity. The firms that show real faces, real stories, and real wins will always outperform those that don’t.

The Takeaway: Human Expertise + Intelligent Automation

2026 will be a defining year for legal digital marketing. AI will continue changing how potential clients discover and evaluate law firms, but trust, experience, and authenticity will remain irreplaceable.

Winning firms will:

✅ Use AI to enhance efficiency, not replace expertise.

✅ Build visibility beyond Google search across social, video, and AI platforms.

✅ Keep their voice authentic, personal, and client-focused.

It’s time for the Consultwebs monthly Legal Digital Marketing Industry Updates! If you’re new here, each month we round up the must-know legal digital marketing updates for busy attorneys. Explore this month’s highlights of bite-sized, need-to-know news below.

Let’s Get to the Updates!

🤖AI

  • Brand mentions boost AI Search Rankings: Study by Ahrefs. Study finds – if your law firm brand is being mentioned in several places online, AI systems are much more likely to mention you in conversations, as well. Branding is an often-neglected piece of the marketing puzzle due to the nature of vague attribution. But it is a key to modern-day best practices for legal digital marketing.

🔎SEO

  • Google is updating to simplify search page results. With this update, Google aims to clean up search results and remove support for certain structured data types in Search Console and its API. This will begin January 2026. This is in line with the trend we have noticed of technical SEO shifting toward quality over quantity. Clear, useful markups that enhance user understanding are necessary.

📣Paid Advertising

  • Google is phasing out call-only ads by 2027. Attorneys relying on phone leads will have to transition to Responsive Search Ads with Call Assetts. Google has provided a step-by-step migration plan for affected users here.
  • ChatGPT advertisements are on their way. Based on CEO Sam Altman’s comments, it seems that these are a ways off yet, but in the source article, he goes into detail about how he envisions them functioning. Spoiler: it’s nothing like other advertising platforms have tried before. The full video interview is available here
  • Changes to automated lead credits for LSAs. Google has updated how Local Services Ads handle low-quality leads. Instead of charging you first and issuing a credit later, Google now screens leads before billing. Low-quality inquiries won’t be charged at all. You may still see a small number of auto-credits within the first 24 hours as the system catches up, but overall, you should expect: Fewer charged leads, fewer credited leads, no change to total lead volume or net spend.

📱Social Media

  • Responding to your comments on social media makes a huge difference in engagement. According to a study completed by social media platform management tool, Buffer, reach experiences a lift when actively responding to comments on posts (across all industries). Approximately, the increases can be up to: LinkedIn 30%, Instagram 21%, and Facebook 9%. For attorneys seeking to maximize their social media presence, active community engagement is key.
  • Instagram tests competitor insights for professional accounts. This new feature allows you to choose up to 10 accounts to compare your performance against, with side-by-side comparison data on relative follower growth and posting frequency (across Reels, feed posts, ads and more). This new feature is a great way to benchmark how frequently you should be posting and what the industry standard engagement metrics are. The feature is not fully available yet, but is slowly beginning rollout.

Keeping up with legal digital marketing industry news and trends requires time–something many attorneys are short on. So, we’ve done the research for you! In the Consultwebs monthly roundup, you can expect the bite-sized, need-to-know version of legal marketing updates and news. Explore this month’s highlights below.

Let’s Get to the Updates!

🤖AI

  • Nearly all ChatGPT users still rely on Google. ChatGPT and AI search are booming, but Google is still the default starting point for search. Traditional search engine usage is at 95%, according to data from Datos and SparkToro, and heavy AI users are still cross-checking with Google. Attorneys should prioritize diversification, focusing on channels that matter the most in terms of incoming leads and cases signed. AI tools will continue to rise, but Google isn’t going anywhere.

🔎SEO

  •  A judge ruled that Google illegally held a monopoly on internet search. While they avoided the most severe penalties, the court did impose a few solutions. 1 – prohibition of exclusive contracts and 2 – mandated data sharing. (More on that in the article) While Google still retains advantages, this ruling paves the way for competitors, especially those in the AI space, to have a fairer shot in the search market industry. Maintaining current search efforts paired with diversifying search should be a priority for law firms right now.

📣Paid Advertising

  • Google quietly raised ad prices 5-15% at a time using “pricing knobs” that made increases look like normal auction fluctuations to advertisers. Now, a federal judge requires them to publicly disclose auction changes that raise advertiser costs. Moving forward, they should provide insight into price changes that were previously hidden. Law firms may see an increase in advertising costs.
  • Meta expands Reels and Threads ad options, which are still in beta. Reels will allow advertisers to place their ads in popular trending reels. They are also offering new formats for Threads ads, including new 4:5 sizing and carousels. The most significant change is that advertisers can now use existing posts from Facebook or Instagram without needing a Threads profile. Attorneys should add new placements for A/B testing if they become available and monitor campaigns to understand if there are any notable differences.

📱Social Media

  • Instagram will enable you to pin your own comments. Previously, Instagram only allowed users to pin others’ comments. Now, you can leave your own and pin it to the top of your post. This is especially helpful for law firms that want to share important information in comment sections. This feature can be used for updates, announcements, responses to common questions, and more. It is still being rolled out, so it may not be available to everyone just yet.
  • Will the never-ending TikTok saga end? Maybe! The US reports a deal will be finalized soon, with Oracle playing a major part. According to the article, they will be overseeing a re-creation of a new US-only version of TikTok’s algorithm, which they will maintain after the initial build. In the meantime, lawyers should continue posting to the app and saving content to repurpose across other platforms. When the deal is struck, there’s no telling what kind of shifts we will see in the algorithm.
  • YouTube announces new updates. These updates make it easier for attorneys to grow channels. AI-powered editing tools simplify Shorts and podcasts, while A/B testing and auto-dubbing expand reach and engagement across languages. Firms can expect to reach broader audiences and more opportunities to repurpose content.

  • Targeting your networking
  • Posting regularly
  • Engaging your audience with quality content.

Why Does LinkedIn Matter for Law Firm Marketing?

LinkedIn gives law firms direct access to a large audience. As of January 2025, LinkedIn reported:

  • It has more than 1.1 billion members worldwide
  • More than 234 million users in the United States
  • 310 million monthly users, with 40 percent logging in daily.

As those numbers show, referral sources and industry peers actively use the platform and check it often.

LinkedIn users are also highly engaged. As the company reports, users are:

  • Involved in more than 1 billion interactions each month
  • Send more than 100 million messages each day
  • Engage with business pages at a high rate (40 percent of weekly users).

These numbers show that LinkedIn isn’t just a resume site. It is an active business community where connections and conversations are organic.

According to LinkedIn:

  • Ads on the platform reach nearly 15 percent of adults worldwide,
  • 78 percent of marketers report a positive return on their investment
  • More than one-third of users research companies after seeing their ads on LinkedIn.

So, the LinkedIn audience is not just large. It is also professional and ready to engage. Your presence on this site can directly influence new business opportunities for your firm.

What Are the Best Practices for LinkedIn Law Firm Marketing?

Law firms that use LinkedIn as a strategic marketing tool can see more opportunities to connect with the right people. It also connects you with referral sources, local leaders, and other lawyers who can help you expand your reach.

The LinkedIn platform rewards consistent, relevant activity. The most successful firms post regularly, use eye-catching visuals, and respond quickly to comments and messages. They also encourage their employees to share company posts to widen exposure.

Below are some specific best practices to turn LinkedIn into a steady source of awareness, credibility, and qualified leads for your law firm via referrals.

Identify Your Target Audience

Before you post content and run ads on LinkedIn, you need to get a clear picture of your target audience. Consider whether it will include business professionals, referral partners, or other attorneys in your area. You should also consider location, industry, and common legal concerns.

For example, a family law firm that receives inquiries for personal injury cases might want to network with attorneys in their area who handle those types of cases to set up a referral partnership.

Once you define your target audience, you can:

  • Create posts that speak directly to the audience’s needs
  • Share information, updates, and tips that address their concerns
  • Join LinkedIn groups where your audience participates
  • Use relevant hashtags so your content appears in their searches.

When your law firm’s message matches what your target audience is looking for on LinkedIn, it increases the chances that those users will follow your page, interact with your posts, and contact your firm.

Establish and Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile

Your LinkedIn profile is often is often a fellow attorney’s first introduction. You can take the following steps to make it stand out:

  • Use a professional headshot or group photo and a background image that reflects your practice area or your firm’s identity.
  • Write a headline clearly stating what you do and whom you serve rather than a generic job title.
  • Use the “About” section to explain your services, highlight your results, and show why clients choose your firm.
  • Use plain, direct language. Avoid legal jargon that might confuse readers, and focus on your value.
  • Display your credentials. List your attorneys’ experience, education, awards, and notable cases in the “Experience” section.
  • Incorporate relevant keywords to improve your visibility in searches.

Additionally, your law firm should ensure your LinkedIn page has a complete profile, including a professional logo, clear contact information, and consistent branding. LinkedIn data shows companies with complete profiles get 30 percent more views. An optimized, detailed, active profile will help your firm build trust and encourage potential clients and partners to connect with you.

Build Your LinkedIn Network

A strong network increases your visibility and opportunities on LinkedIn. Here are some ways you can start building your law firm’s network:

  • Connect with those you know. Contact colleagues, former clients, law school classmates, and professional contacts.
  • Send personalized connection requests. When someone accepts, review their connections for others you can add to your network.
  • Engage with your network. Join relevant groups to meet more professionals, participate in discussions, and comment on posts from your connections so you encourage them to engage with you.
  • Aim to grow your connections steadily over time. The more connections you have, the greater your reach for every post you make. Each new connection also expands your visibility to other people’s networks, which can lead to introductions and referrals.

The bottom line is that, by building a broad network, you can share content with more people and make it easier for your firm to be found for one of your practice areas.

Post Regularly in Your LinkedIn Account

Consistency matters on LinkedIn. Firms that post once a week have twice the engagement, and pages that stay active get five times more views. Here are ways your law firm can regularly post quality content on LinkedIn:

  • Create a schedule that works for you. You may post daily or just twice per week. Stick to your schedule so your audience will expect to hear from you. Regular posts can keep your firm visible in your connections’ feeds and signal you are active and engaged.
  • Mix up your content to keep it fresh. Share updates about your firm, legal news that affects your audience, recent case results, and thought leadership articles.
  • Use visuals like images and videos whenever possible. Include relevant hashtags to increase your reach. Tag people or organizations when it makes sense, as this can encourage them to share your content with their followers.
  • Encourage your team to share your posts. Employee shares boost the number of people who see your content. Keep the conversation going by responding to comments or messages on your posts.

Discuss What Your Audience Cares About

Your posts should reflect your target audience’s interests and needs. Consider the questions clients often ask and the issues that matter to them.

For instance, if you are a personal injury firm, you might post about changes in insurance laws, safety tips, or steps to take after an accident. If you focus on business law, you might share information on compliance or recent legal trends affecting local companies.

When you share content that speaks directly to your audience’s concerns, you position your firm as a trusted resource. Over time, this approach can build recognition and strengthen your relationships with potential clients and referral sources.

When your law firm posts content, make sure to:

  • Keep your explanations clear. Make them easy to understand. Do not use unnecessary legal jargon.
  • Offer practical takeaways that readers can use. When you help a reader learn something new or leave them thinking about a topic in a different way, it leaves a lasting impression.
  • Make your posts timely. You can respond to current events, legal updates, or seasonal issues that affect your audience. The more relevant your topics, the more engagement and shares you will get.

Go Beyond Your Practice Areas

People follow law firms on LinkedIn not only to learn about legal issues but also to connect with the people behind the practice. So, law firms that post only about their specific legal services risk losing their audience’s attention.

If you provide a mix of personal and professional content, it will make your firm more relatable. You should share posts on topics such as:

  • Your law firm’s involvement in the community
  • Your firm’s culture and offices
  • Team achievements
  • Charity events, sponsorships, or local causes you support
  • Milestones like anniversaries, awards, or new hires.

This content helps your audience see your law firm’s attorneys and staff as approachable. Also, the variety keeps your content fresh and shows you have a well-rounded presence. When people feel they know and understand your firm, they are more likely to remember you when they or someone they know needs legal representation.

Share Your Content

Content drives visibility on LinkedIn. Still, not all posts perform the same. LinkedIn statistics show that:

  • Video posts get five times more engagement than other content.
  • Posts with images get double the engagement of text-only updates.
  • Long-form content (about 2,000 words) often ranks high in visibility.

Consistently sharing high-quality, engaging posts will strengthen your presence on LinkedIn and keep your audience informed. So, when developing your LinkedIn content strategy, you should plan to:

  • Share videos that explain legal concepts in plain language, showcase your firm’s community work, or introduce your team
  • Add images to event recaps, client success stories (with permission), or educational posts
  • Consider publishing articles directly on LinkedIn to take advantage of the reach of long-form content
  • When appropriate, link your posts to your website so readers can learn more about your services or contact you.

If you create blogs, videos, or other marketing materials for your site, repurpose them for LinkedIn. You do not need to start from scratch each time. You can adapt existing content to fit the platform.

Engage with Others

LinkedIn rewards engagement. When you interact with other users, your name and profile appear in more feeds, which increases your reach. The more you interact, the more people see your profile and associate it with your law firm’s attorneys as being active and approachable.

You can effectively engage with others on LinkedIn when you:

  • Respond to comments on your posts promptly and in a friendly tone
  • Thank people for sharing your content or offering feedback
  • Give clear, helpful answers when people post questions
  • Comment on posts from your connections
  • Join in group discussions
  • Congratulate others on their achievements.

You can encourage engagement by ending your posts with interesting questions or inviting readers to share their thoughts. This approach opens the door to conversations and strengthens relationships with your audience. Over time, your active participation can build recognition and increase the likelihood of others engaging with your firm’s content.

On July 10th, Instagram began allowing Google and other search engines to index content from posts and profiles. Your law firm’s social media content now has the opportunity to show up in search results in a way that it never did before. Your bio, reels, and posts all have the potential to rank. Read on to learn actionable steps for how your law firm can leverage this new development.

The Rise of Social Media in Search

Social content is becoming an integral piece of search. Users are highly likely to trust these sources as they are community-based, increasing social proof.

Attorneys should also be mindful of how social media relates to AI Overviews and Large Language Models (LLMs). AI indexes content at a much faster pace than traditional search engines. By optimizing your content for search, not only are you increasing your chances to rank in Google, but increasing your law firm’s discoverability in AI placements. Many of which deliver posts directly, so users do not have to click through to your profiles.

What Makes an Instagram Post SEO Friendly?

Keywords are the main source of making your posts searchable. It’s important to anticipate the topics potential clients may search for and to cover them thoroughly with relevant captions.

Over time, keyword targeting is becoming less about exact matches and more about user intent. This often means people are searching differently. For example, instead of searching for “car accident attorney”, many users search “who is the best car accident attorney in Chicago?”.

To show up as a top result for a query like that, your content should clearly demonstrate your knowledge. Answering multiple questions that people would potentially be searching for will help build your credibility and authority. Focus on “index-worthy chunks” of content—providing real answers to user questions.

Where should I put relevant keywords in my posts?

  • As titles: For audio and locations
  • In captions: Woven naturally into the post copy
  • As hashtags: Added to the caption (placement doesn’t matter)
  • As alt text: In the text used to describe visuals in your post (more on how to apply this later in this article)

How Can Your Law Firm Optimize Instagram to Rank in Search Engines?

When it comes to social media optimization, marketers should prioritize a few different areas. We outline them below.

Update Your Profile Bio

Treat your Instagram bio like a searchable landing page for potential clients. Include keywords that let people know who you are, what you do, and where you are located. Make sure that the account name itself is relevant to what you do. This isn’t an issue for most attorneys since the words law or attorneys are often in their business name.

For example:

Consultwebs IG profile overview

For an attorney, you might want to use a bio like this:

Awesome Law Firm Name

📍Chicago Car Accident Attorney

⚖FREE Consultations

If there is enough room to include it, you should also consider including information like your office hours.

Use Alt Text for Images

Instagram uses image context—including alt text—to understand what your content is about. This helps your posts show up in search results and Instagram’s Explore page more often, especially if the alt text includes relevant keywords.

Not only does it improve SEO, but by providing alt text, you are improving accessibility. Screen readers rely on alt text to accurately describe images to visually impaired users.

How to Add Alt Text on Instagram:

  1. Go to “Advanced settings” before posting.
  2. Tap “Write Alt Text” under Accessibility.
  3. Add a short, descriptive sentence that conveys the content and context of the image.

Leverage a Link Page

You’ve probably seen many Instagram profiles utilizing websites like Linktree, LinkinBios, Beacons, or other similar pages.

So what are they?

They are a tool that allows you to create a landing page that contains multiple links, all accessible through a single URL. They are very common on social media platforms.

Why should your law firm be using one?

  • Multiple Links in One URL
    • Many social media platforms only allow 1-3 links. With a URL landing page, you are free to host multiple links. So if one day your law firm runs a giveaway that requires someone to fill out a doc form, and the next day you post a blog, both of those links can be hosted at the same URL.
  • Easy to Update
    • It’s much easier to add multiple links to a single link page instead of constantly changing the single link on your bio.
  • Simplified User Experience
    • By creating the multi-link page it gives your audience a less overwhelming hub to sort through instead of having to hunt for the same information on your main website.
  • Repurpose Your Clicks
    • Instead of using a third-party tool, we recommend building a page from your website that mimics the function of a tool like Linktree. With this method, you have more control over all of those valuable clicks. They can later be used for advertising and remarketing purposes.

Research

Research is key in understanding what types of posts are ranking well in search. Since social media changes so rapidly, staying up to date on platform best practices in a timely fashion is crucial. There are two main categories that should be considered during research.

Keyword Research

Tools that can be used for keyword research:

  • SEMRush for traditional keyword data
  • Google Trends + Glimpse Extension for real-time social trends
  • AlsoAsked.com for real user questions
  • TikTok Search Autocomplete for Gen Z insights

Pro tip: Phrasing matters when researching. Instead of searching “car accident,” search for more natural language types like “what to do after a car accident”.

Competitor Research

Search industry-specific phrases and take note of who shows up at the top of the list. What are they doing consistently across their posts that keeps landing them at the top? Reverse engineer those commonalities and apply them to your strategy. Next, take a look at their bios and see if they are using specific keywords on their profile.

Next Steps

We know this is a lot to take in! That’s why we’ve compiled a summary list of actionable steps to help optimize your Instagram.

🔍 Profile Optimization

  • Update your bio to include your practice area, location, and a keyword-rich descriptor (e.g., Chicago Car Accident Attorney).
  • Make your username and display name descriptive when possible (e.g., use “Smith Injury Law” instead of just “Smith Law”).

🖼 Content Optimization

  • Plan your content around what users are already searching for.
  • Use keywords in captions that reflect how potential clients would naturally search (e.g., “What to do after a truck accident”).
  • Write descriptive alt text for all posts to improve accessibility and SEO. (Go to Advanced Settings > Accessibility > Write Alt Text)

📈 Posting Strategy

  • Ensure your posts provide value by answering common legal questions or explaining legal processes in plain language.
  • Use visually appealing, on-brand designs that are easy to understand at a glance.

🔗 Link Management

  • Set up a link hub using Linktree, LinkinBio, or a custom landing page on your own website. Include links to your contact form, blog, consultation scheduler, or FAQs.

🧠 Research & Competitor Analysis

  • Monitor what ranks well and continuously adapt your strategy.
